Sunday Morning City Skate

Sunday Morning City Skate

When: Every Sunday
Departure Time: 10:30 am sharp

Come on out and join the Inline Club of Boston for our weekly Sunday Morning City Skate!

Every Sunday morning May through September (weather permitting) we meet up at JFK Park in Cambridge for a 6 to 8 mile skate through the streets of Cambridge, Somerville and parts of Boston. Destinations vary widely and may include city neighborhoods, City Squares such as Harvard and Kendall, Harvard and MIT campuses and bike paths on both sides of the river.

This is designed as an entry level city skate so there are some points prospective participants should keep in mind.

We do skate in the streets so you will need to be comfortable on your skates in light city traffic. We do try to keep to the more quiet roads but traffic is never completely predictable.

You should have good stopping skills. The city does present a wide variety of obstacles and the ability to control your speed and stop is important.

It is important that you are comfortable negotiating minor road obstacles such as curbs, sewer grates, sand or dirt and substandard pavement.

We do periodically go down small hills.

We recommend that you wear all protective gear. Most of the things out here are pretty hard!

Of course we do our best to minimize these issues but it is never possible to miss them all.

If this sounds like something for you and you have some more questions or need more info please feel free to contact Neil Wetzler at neile13@hotmail.com and we will respond as quickly as possible.

We meet up at JFK park around 10 and depart at 10:30. As stated, the skate is generally 6 to 8 miles in length and will last between an hour and fifteen minutes and an hour an a half. Most Sundays we gather afterwards for coffee and treats or lunch and to talk about our skating adventures. The skate is always announced Saturday morning on the ICB mailing list, Facebook page and Meetup page.

Even if you don’t feel you are up to this skate yet please feel free to come and meet the group any Sunday morning. If this is your first Sunday Skate please introduce yourself to the skate leader and other skaters. We were all new to this once and will be very happy to welcome you to the skate. Even if you’re not up to skating with us quite yet please feel free to come by and meet the group.

We also run a Midweek on the Minuteman skate that may be more to your liking. You can meet some of the group and develop the skills that will get you out on a Sunday!

We hope to meet you soon!

Getting to JFK Park: Take the T (Red Line) to Harvard Square, or if driving, you can park on most streets since Cambridge’s resident-only parking restriction is lifted on Sundays. We normally park on Memorial Drive (just to the West of JFK park) or Mt. Auburn St, and walk/skate over to the park.

Check out the skills necessary for this event in our Skate Skills page.

Don’t forget to sign up for our mailing list to receive updates about this and other ICB events!
